Science and Plants for Schools (SAPS), works with teachers to:

promote plant science and molecular biology as key curriculum areas
support educators in the delivery of plant science and molecular biology education in schools and colleges

We hope that our approach will help young people to become more aware of the importance of plants in the global economy, and to encourage more of them to follow careers in plant science and molecular biology.

The SAPS programme was launched in January 1990 and at the present time is a project of the University of Cambridge and linked to the work of the Botanic Garden of the university.

Until December 2009, the SAPS Biotechnology Scotland Project (also known as SAPS Scotland) was located on two sites - SSERC and Dollar Academy. Changes in the nature of funding have meant that SAPS Scotland no longer functions as a separate unit. The activities for which SAPS Scotland was well known, e,g. workshop delivery and resource development, are now carried out through SSERC’s Biology Development Team as part of its wider remit to support science and technology education in Scotland.
